Sierra Biofuels Plant, Storey County, NV
This is the nation’s first waste-to-fuels commercial-scale plant converting a municipal solid waste (MSW) feedstock into a renewable transportation fuel product. The plant is expected to process approximately 175,000 tons of MSW feedstock annually, creating 11 million gallons per year of renewable synthetic crude oil that will be processed into transportation fuel. CME is providing special inspection and materials testing for a biorefinery structure, wastewater treatment and crystallizer system, air separation unit, and substation. Oversight and testing services included:
- Mass Grading
- Foundation Construction
- Reinforced Concrete
- Structural Steel Welding and Bolting
- Post-Installed Anchorage
KEY CHALLENGES
- Simultaneous coordination of construction crews working on multiple structure types and phases of work
- Inspection of complex structural components to ensure adherence to unique design parameters
