Job Description:
We are seeking an entry- to mid-level Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) Concrete Mix Design Technician to lead concrete mix design development and quality control activities in support of public works, transportation, and infrastructure projects throughout Northern Nevada and surrounding regions. This position focuses on concrete materials performance, laboratory evaluation, mix optimization, and quality assurance for concrete production facilities.
The ideal candidate is a Concrete Industry Management (CIM) program graduate or comparable education/experience with a strong concrete materials expertise who is comfortable working in an office, field, and laboratory environment, collaborating with suppliers and project teams.
You will lead concrete mix design development and quality control activities for multiple local suppliers, verifying compliance with industry standards (ACI, ASTM, NRMCA). Conduct regular audits of concrete production facilities and collaborate with project teams on mix performance, documentation, and compliance reporting.
Key Requirements:
Concrete Mix Design & Technical Oversight
- Develop, review, evaluate, and optimize concrete mix designs to meet project specifications, performance requirements, and applicable standards.
- Oversee laboratory testing related to mix design development, verification, and performance evaluation.
- Analyze test results, material properties, and production data to assess mix performance and recommend adjustments as needed.
- Provide technical guidance related to concrete materials, mix proportions, and performance characteristics.
Quality Assurance & Quality Control
- Perform QC activities related to concrete production, laboratory testing, and mix design compliance.
- Provide QA oversight by evaluating concrete production facilities, quality programs, and compliance with established standards and procedures.
- Conduct periodic audits and assessments of concrete production facilities to verify adherence to industry standards, quality management systems, and certification programs.
- Verify conformance with applicable specifications and standards, including ACI, ASTM, and NRMCA requirements.
Collaboration & Client Support
- Coordinate with concrete suppliers, contractors, and internal project teams regarding mix design submittals, approvals, and performance issues.
- Participate in meetings with clients and suppliers to discuss mix design requirements, testing results, and quality considerations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- CIM program graduate preferred or equivalent experience.
- Progress toward Nevada Professional Engineer (PE) licensure, with the ability to obtain licensure within five (5) years.
- ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician – Level I certification.
- Demonstrated experience with concrete materials testing, mix design development, and quality control.
- Understanding of concrete-related standards and specifications (ACI, ASTM, NRMCA).
- Experience working in a laboratory environment and reviewing technical data.
Preferred Skills:
- Multiple ICC Special Inspection certifications.
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I certification.
- Experience performing field/lab testing of soils, concrete, masonry, and structural components.
- Familiarity with NDOT, IBC, ACI, ASTM, AWS, and agency-specific codes and standards.
- Experience using tablets/iPads for field reporting.
- 2-5 years of experience performing special inspections on construction projects (more preferred).
