West River Street Park, now DEWBEYÚMUWEɁ Park | Truckee, CA
The Town of Truckee’s West River Street Park Project represents a transformative effort to revitalize a former industrial site into a vibrant, multi-use public space along the Truckee River. Now named DEWBEYÚMUWEɁ Park, a Washoe Tribe word meaning “the water running out”, the project honors the cultural heritage of the Tribe while promoting sustainability, community, and environmental stewardship. Park features include ADA accessible walking paths, native riparian landscaping, picnic areas, interpretive signage, local art installations, lighting, and public restrooms. Prioritizing community input to design this mixed-use site, the project enhances riverfront access and supports local biodiversity. DEWBEYÚMUWEɁ Park will serve as a key recreational destination for both residents and visitors.
